How to add an AI chatbot to your website in 10 minutes (no code)

How to add an AI chatbot to your website in about 10 minutes, with no code: teach it from your site, test it, then paste one line into WordPress, Shopify or Wix

You can add an AI chatbot to your website in about ten minutes without writing any code. With Ansa, you sign up, type your website address so the assistant can read your pages, ask it a few test questions, then paste one line of code into your website builder. If you don't have a website, you can share a chat link instead.

What do you need before you start?

Less than you might think:

  • A business name. The assistant uses it when it introduces itself.
  • Your website address, if you have one. Ansa reads your pages to learn your prices, opening hours and policies.
  • Or a document or two if you don't have a website: a price list, menu, brochure or FAQ as a PDF, Word, TXT or Markdown file.
  • Access to your website builder's settings, so you can paste one line of code. If someone else looks after your site, Ansa can write them an email with the code and instructions.

You don't need a card to start. The Free plan gives you 20 answers a month to try Ansa on your own website.

How do you set up an AI chatbot step by step?

Step 1: Create your account

  1. Go to ansa.chat/signup and click Continue with Google, or sign up with your email and a password.
  2. Type your business name and click Continue.

Step 2: Let Ansa read your website

  1. Type your website address, for example yourbusiness.com.
  2. Click Read my website.
  3. Reading usually takes a minute or two. You can wait, or click Explore while it reads and carry on while it works in the background.

Ansa follows your sitemap and links, stays on your own site, and skips pages such as login, cart and checkout. It can also read pages built with JavaScript, which is common on Wix and Framer sites, and PDFs linked from your pages. How many pages it reads each time depends on your plan, from 20 on Free to 1,000 on Business. See Add your website for the details.

No website? Click Skip, I’ll add documents. You can then Upload a document or Type your top questions as Q&A pairs. See Upload documents.

Step 3: Fill any gaps

Your website rarely covers everything. In Knowledge you can add three more kinds of information:

  • Documents for price lists, menus and brochures (each up to 10 MB).
  • Text snippets for things that aren't written down anywhere, like delivery areas or your returns policy. See Add text snippets.
  • Q&A pairs for questions that need one exact answer, such as deposits or cancellation rules. When a customer asks something very close to your question, Ansa replies with your answer word for word. See Add Q&A pairs.

Step 4: Test your assistant

When reading is done, click Test your assistant. While your assistant is still a draft, only you can chat with it.

Try:

  1. Your ten most common questions: prices, opening hours, location, delivery, booking, returns.
  2. A question you know isn't covered. Ansa should reply with your "don't know" message rather than guessing.
  3. Another language your customers use. Ansa replies in the language the customer writes in.

If an answer is missing, add it as a Q&A pair or text snippet and ask again. More tips are in Test Ansa before you publish.

Step 5: Make it look like your business

Open Appearance to set the assistant's name, welcome message, accent colour and light or dark theme. Two settings are worth a moment's thought:

  • When Ansa doesn’t know: the message customers see instead of a guess.
  • Contact link: a WhatsApp number, email address or website, offered as a button when Ansa can't help.

The Live preview updates as you type. See Customise your assistant.

Step 6: Choose what Ansa can do (optional)

Open Actions to let Ansa do more than answer. Each action is off until you turn it on, except hand-off, which new assistants on Starter, Pro and Business start with:

  • Take bookings. Share your booking link on every plan, or on Pro and Business connect Google Calendar or Calendly so Ansa offers your real free times. See Take bookings in the chat.
  • Hand-off and lead capture. On Starter, Pro and Business, when Ansa can't help or someone asks for a person, it takes their details and emails you a summary of the chat. See When Ansa can't help.
  • Answer "where is my order?" On Pro and Business, connect Shopify or Stripe and Ansa tells verified customers their order status. See Answer order questions.

Step 7: Publish and add it to your website

  1. Open Deploy and turn on the Publish switch. The label changes to Published.
  2. Under Add the chat bubble to your website, click Copy code.
  3. Paste the code into your website, just before the closing </body> tag, or in your builder's site-wide footer code box (see the platform guides below).
  4. Save and publish your site, then visit it. The chat bubble appears in the bottom-right corner.

The code is a single line that looks like this, with your own assistant's ID:

<script src="https://ansa.chat/widget.js" data-bot-id="YOUR-ASSISTANT-ID" defer></script>

It loads in the background, so it won't slow your pages down.

Where does the code go on my website builder?

Most builders have a box for code that runs on every page. You only paste the code once.

WordPress

Install a free plugin such as WPCode (or "Insert Headers and Footers"), go to Code Snippets → Header & Footer, paste your code into the Footer box and click Save. Step-by-step: Add Ansa to WordPress.

Shopify

In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, click ⋯ next to your theme, then Edit code. Open theme.liquid in the Layout folder, paste the code just above </body> and click Save. The bubble then appears on every page of your store except checkout, which doesn't run theme code. Step-by-step: Add Ansa to Shopify. On Pro and Business, you can also connect your store so Ansa answers "where is my order?": see Answer order questions from Shopify or Stripe.

Wix

In your Wix dashboard, open Settings, then Custom code under Advanced. Click + Add Custom Code, paste the code, choose All pages and Body – end, then click Apply and publish. Step-by-step: Add Ansa to Wix.

Squarespace

Go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection (in newer versions, Website → Pages → Custom code), paste the code into the Footer box and click Save. Step-by-step: Add Ansa to Squarespace.

Webflow and Framer

In Webflow, paste the code into Footer code under Site settings → Custom code, save and publish. In Framer, paste it into End of <body> tag under Site Settings → General → Custom Code, save and publish. Step-by-step: Add Ansa to Webflow or Framer.

Any other website

Paste the code just before the closing </body> tag in the template or footer every page shares. Optional extras for developers: add data-position="left" to show the bubble on the left, or data-open="true" to open the chat when the page loads. See Add Ansa to any website.

What if someone else manages my website?

In Deploy, choose the Send to my web designer tab and click Write the email. Ansa writes an email with your code and simple instructions. Add your designer's address and send it.

What if I don't have a website?

You can still use Ansa. Every assistant has its own chat page, so you can copy your chat link from Deploy (under No website? Share a link) and put it in your Instagram or TikTok bio, your WhatsApp Business profile, your Google Business Profile, your email signature, or a QR code on your menu or shop window. See Share your chat link.

On the Starter, Pro and Business plans, Ansa can also answer on your own WhatsApp number. See Connect your WhatsApp number.

What should I do after it's live?

Setting up takes minutes; getting answers right is an ongoing, light job:

  • Check unanswered questions once or twice a week. Every question Ansa couldn't answer is saved in Conversations under Unanswered questions. Click Add this answer to turn it into a Q&A pair. See Fill the gaps from unanswered questions.
  • Refresh your website source when you change prices or policies. Ansa doesn't re-read your site on its own. Click the refresh icon next to your website in Knowledge. For urgent changes, add a Q&A pair, which takes effect straight away.
  • Lock the chat to your own domain. In Deploy, add your website under Where the bubble may appear, so nobody else can use your code. See Limit which websites can show your chat.

FAQ

Do I need to know how to code?

No. If you can paste one line into your website builder's settings, you can install Ansa. If you'd rather not, Ansa can write an email to your web designer for you.

How long does it take?

Most businesses are answering customers within ten minutes. Reading your website usually takes a minute or two, and you can explore the dashboard while it works.

Will the chatbot slow down my website?

The code loads quietly in the background with defer, so your pages load first.

Why can't I see the chat bubble?

Check that your assistant is Published in Deploy, that you're looking at your live site rather than an editor preview, and clear any caching plugin. See The chat bubble isn't showing.

What does it cost?

You can start free with no card, and paid plans are flat monthly prices from $25 a month with no overage fees. See Pricing or our guide to AI chatbot costs for small businesses.

What happens if Ansa doesn't know an answer?

It doesn't guess. It shows your "don't know" message and your contact link, and saves the question so you can add the answer. On Starter, Pro and Business, with hand-off on, it can also take the customer's email address and send you their question with a short summary of the chat, so you can reply from your inbox.
