Fix pages Ansa couldn't read

What Failed, Needs attention, Skipped and Couldn’t read mean on your Ansa Knowledge page, and how to fix website pages and documents with each status.

Last updated

Find the problem

  1. Open Knowledge and click the source in the Source library.
  2. Read the message at the top.
  3. For a website, scroll the Pages list. Pages marked Skipped or Couldn’t read show the reason underneath.

Today’s signal in your Command centre also lists sources that need a look.

What the source statuses mean

  • Queued or Reading: in progress.
  • Ready: Ansa can answer from it.
  • Needs attention: partly read. Ansa uses the parts it read.
  • Failed: nothing could be read.

Click Try again to retry a problem source, or Read again after you change a source that read fine.

Fixes for each message

"We couldn't find yourbusiness.com" Check the address in your browser. Delete the source and add it again with the right address.

"The site took too long to respond" or "We couldn't connect" Your site was slow or down. Click Try again.

"This page builds its content with JavaScript, and Ansa couldn’t load it" Click Try again. If it still fails, copy the text into a text snippet, or save the page as a PDF and upload it.

"Only 25 JavaScript pages are loaded per crawl" Add the most important missing pages as snippets or PDFs.

"Blocked by robots.txt" Your website tells Ansa not to read that page. Ask whoever runs your site to allow it, then click Try again.

"Skipped (account, cart or non-page link)" Normal. Ansa never reads login, account, cart or checkout pages.

Pages skipped to stay within your knowledge limit Delete sources you don't need or upgrade, then click Try again.

"This PDF has no selectable text" It's a scanned image. See scanned PDFs.

"We couldn't read this PDF. It may be damaged or password-protected" Remove the password or re-save the PDF, then upload it again.

"This looks like an older Word (.doc) or password-protected file" Remove any password, save it as .docx or PDF, and upload it again.
